HARIDWAR & RISHIKESH- LAND OF RISHI
Haridwar is a holy town situated on the banks of River
Ganga. Haridwar is also known as Hardwar, now the meaning of “Haridwar” is “Gateway
to Lord Vishnu ji” and the meaning of “Hardwar” is “Gateway to Lord Shiv ji”.
We started our journey from Gwalior, and we were in a group
of 10 people. We took a train to Haridwar from Gwalior and it usually takes 15
to 16 hours to cover that distance. We reach Haridwar on 15th of
December at 11:00PM and we checked into hotel and takes rest because all of us
were tired due to the long journey. Next day means on 16th of
December we went for Ganga Snan at 7:00AM. Then we took a dip at Har ki Pauri
Ghat which claims to be the holiest ghat on Haridwar and it is the place where
Ganga comes down from the mountain to the lands, Har ki Pauri means “Steps of
Lord Shiva”. After taking the bath we went to have some breakfast at Panditji
Poori Wale. After finishing breakfast we went back to the hotel and to freshen
up. At 11:00AM we all were ready to explore the Haridwar City, at first we went
to Mansa Devi Temple and we did not booked ropeway at Mansa Devi Temple , we
reached Mansa Devi Temple by walking, when you will reach Mansa Devi Temple
shopkeepers will force you to remove their slippers/shoes at their shops so
that you can buy flowers and Prasad from their shops, but if you don’t want to
buy flowers and Prasad then you can enter the temple and inside the temple preparation
for keeping slippers/shoes is available. After Mansa Devi Temple we went to
Chandi Devi Temple, at Chandi Devi Temple we booked ropeway and the system of
keeping shoes/slippers is as same as it was in Mansa Devi Temple. After Chandi
Devi Temple we went back to the hotel and had dinner.
Next day, on 7th of January, we took a bus from
Haridwar to Rishikesh at 10:00AM in the morning , bus fare was Rs 40 per head. We
reached Rishikesh after one hour that is 11:00AM. We have not explored
Rishikesh that deeply but we covered the main attraction of Rishikesh. We booked
an auto for the visit of the major attraction it took around 90 rupees per
head. First we reached Triveni Ghat and sat there for 30 to 40 minutes. After
Triveni Ghat er moved to Shri Bharat Mandir the holy temple. After that we
moved to Lakshman Jhula and we sat at the banks of River Ganga for almost one
hour, then we visited Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula. After this we moved to
Triveni Ghat again for Ganga Aarti and it is a worth to see. After all this we
took a bus from Rishikesh to Haridwar and get back to our room at around
11:30PM.
Rishikesh is famous for its adventure activities, and it is
doing good in adventure tourism also. Rishikesh is famous for its River Rafting
and bungee jumping. Rishikesh is called Yoga capital of World and it is famous
for its yoga activity also.
Next day that was our last day in Haridwar we explored all
the market of the city, we tasted some puris of Mohan Puri Wala which is famous
for its puris all over India. At evening, we went to Har ki Pauri Ghat for
Ganga Aaarti which is the best thing I have ever saw in my life.
If you are a wildlife lover then you can visit Rajaji
National Park which is situated near Haridwar.
In Haridwar and Rishikesh the availability food and accommodation
is very good. You can get ashram, dharmshala, hostels, hotels everything. Food
availability is very good you can get food at very low price.
These two holy city is a worth watching city because of its
religious value and the scenic view that we can get from these two cities.
